Connect :3 Extensions with MCP
Search extension metadata, inspect reports, and read indexed source directly from an MCP-compatible research client.

AuthenticationBearer token
1. Create a token
- Sign in and open Account settings.
- Under MCP access, give the token a name that identifies the client or machine.
- Select Create token and copy the resulting
mcp_live_...value.
The full token is shown once. Tokens expire after 30 days and can be revoked from the same page.
2. Store the token
Use an environment variable so the token does not need to appear in a project configuration file. Replace the placeholder with the token you just created.
Windows PowerShell
[Environment]::SetEnvironmentVariable("EXTENSIONS_MCP_TOKEN", "mcp_live_YOUR_TOKEN", "User")
macOS and Linux
export EXTENSIONS_MCP_TOKEN='mcp_live_YOUR_TOKEN'
Start or restart the MCP client after setting the variable. The PowerShell command applies to newly started applications; the shell command applies to clients launched from that shell.
3. Claude Code
Add this project-scoped configuration as .mcp.json in the project root:
{
"mcpServers": {
"extensions": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://extensions.proxied.tech/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ${EXTENSIONS_MCP_TOKEN}"
}
}
}
}
Run claude, approve the project server when prompted, then use /mcp to check its status.
Quick user-wide setup
This alternative stores the token in Claude Code's user configuration and makes the server available across projects:
claude mcp add --transport http extensions --scope user https://extensions.proxied.tech/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer mcp_live_YOUR_TOKEN"
Check the connection with claude mcp get extensions. See the Claude Code MCP reference for client-specific options.
4. Codex
Add the server to ~/.codex/config.toml. The Codex desktop app, CLI, and IDE extension share this configuration on the same host.
[mcp_servers.extensions]
url = "https://extensions.proxied.tech/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "EXTENSIONS_MCP_TOKEN"
Restart Codex, then run codex mcp list or open /mcp inside Codex to confirm the server is connected. See the Codex MCP reference for client-specific options.
Other MCP clients
Choose Streamable HTTP and enter the following connection values. Some clients call the transport simply HTTP.
| Server name | extensions |
|---|---|
| URL | https://extensions.proxied.tech/mcp |
| Header name | Authorization |
| Header value | Bearer mcp_live_YOUR_TOKEN |
If the client accepts an mcpServers JSON object, the Claude Code example is the usual shape. Keep the required type field and adapt environment-variable syntax to that client.
Available tools
Connected agents should call get_platform_documentation before building an unfamiliar or complex query. It returns the complete Markdown reference and does not consume query quota.
| Tool | Purpose |
|---|---|
get_platform_documentation | Read exact query syntax, tool formats, source workflows, limits, and capabilities. |
get_platform_stats | Read platform-wide index statistics. |
search_extensions | Run the documented extension query language. |
get_extension_report | Fetch the latest analysis report for an extension ID. |
search_extension_source | Search indexed source text, optionally by platform or path. |
list_extension_source_files | Browse the indexed file tree for an extension. |
read_extension_source_file | Read one indexed source file with line information. |
All tools are read-only. Documentation and statistics are free; search tools share the Search allowance, while report and source-reading tools share the Direct report allowance.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Check |
|---|---|
401 Unauthorized | Confirm the complete token follows Bearer , has not expired, and has not been revoked. |
| Environment variable is missing | Restart the client after setting it. On macOS or Linux, launch the client from the shell where it was exported. |
429 Too Many Requests | The account or current IP has reached the allowance for that operation. Wait for the indicated reset window. |
| Server does not appear | Use the client's MCP status command and confirm the endpoint includes the final /mcp. |
